A Special Tribute To John and Merrily McLaughlin

PUSH America & NMML Exhibition Games

Each years 30 members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity do a bicycle ride from San Francisco to Washington DC. The purpose of the ride is to stop along the way and work with and bring attention to programs supporting activities that include children with disabilities.

Last year the riders visited the North Park field and we did an exhibition game. Everybody had a great time.

The riders will be with again on Aug. 1st. NMML Coaches have put together teams for this years game. The fraternity brothers will be the buddies.

We encourage all NMML family and friends to join us on that evening to cheer on these players and buddies…and afterward everyone is invited to join us for hotdogs, and other picnic/baseball goodies. The cook-out will be hosted by the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.

Date August 1st, 2006.

NMML Helps Alpharetta Earn Howland Award

Alpharetta, Georgia Earns Howland Award from the National League of Cities

Washington, DC, December 7, 2005 --- Alpharetta, Ga., is one of eight cities selected to receive the prestigious 2005 James C. Howland Award for Municipal Enrichment at the National League of Cities' Congress of Cities in Charlotte, N.C., on December 9th. Mayor Pro Tem Jim Paine will accept the award on behalf of the city.

Alpharetta was the Gold winner in the Population under 50,000 category for its North Metro Miracle League Sports Complex. The Sports Complex contains a 100% handicapped-accessible baseball field, viewing area, pavilion and playground. The effort was led by John McLaughlin, a retired Alpharetta resident who wanted to improve his community, and was completed with the financial support of local businesses and the help of many volunteers.

"The City of Alpharetta is honored to have been selected as one of the recipients of the 2005 James C. Howland Award for Municipal Enrichment," said Alpharetta Mayor Arthur G. Letchas. "With the leadership and perseverance of John McLaughlin, countless volunteers and the hearts and souls of those families who have been touched by someone with disabilities, our City is now blessed to have an inclusive environment where everyone can participate in playing one of America's favorite pastimes - baseball."

Other winning cities include Fayetteville, N.C., Colorado Springs, Colo., San José, Calif., New Brighton, Minn., Casper, Wyo., Des Moines, Iowa, and Austin, Tex. These cities were selected for their efforts to enhance the quality of life in their communities. Public- private partnerships, innovative collaborations and citizen engagement were the hallmarks of their programs. Each city received a cash award, which will be donated to community non-profit organizations of their choice.

Braves Foundation Honors The NMML!

Who is the mystery man at Turner Field accepting honors on behalf of the NMML from the Braves Foundation? The answer is David Monde. With him are Braves Chairman and President Terry McGuirk and Centerfielder Andruw Jones. David and his son Max represented the North Metro Miracle League the evening of August 11th, 2005 when the Atlanta Braves Foundation recognized the good works of 11 area organizations serving children.

We were honored and pleased to have the Atlanta Braves Foundation recognize the efforts of the NMML Team. Thank you to David, Max and the Atlanta Braves Foundation. The Braves gave Max a beautiful plaque and a $10,000 check. While Max willingly gave up the check, getting him to let go of the plaque might be a little more difficult.
